SMILE AND BURN

Today we have another German band, Smile And Burn from Berlin. Since forming around 2009 these guys have put together 3 really good albums containing pop punk, indie, and rock. With the first album, "Flight Attempt of the Kiwi" (2010) the singing was more aggressive with sometimes yelling with a punk feel. Then, in 2012 came the release of "We Didn't Even Fight Yet". This album gave about the same vibes as the first with punk and contained a few calm like tracks, but at times this album was even heavier and some songs had guitar solos. Skip two years ahead and out comes their third album in 2014, "Action Action". This album is another goodie with a smoother Pop Punk sound with even better sounding vocals and organization. I would relate the way the band sounds to that of Against Me!. Now these albums have been put out basically every two years, and 2016 didn't bring one, but you're in luck because March 2, 2017 comes the newest edition to the Smile And Burn discography, "Get Better Get Worse". Well lets have a listen to Smile And Burn!

PORTUGAL. THE MAN "Evil Friends" Vinyl

Hello Monday, and here at Around The Groove that means a post about vinyl. Portugal. The Man will be today's artist on vinyl with their 7th full length album, "Evil Friends". For starters, Portugal. The Man began as a side project, from the members of Anatomy Of A Ghost in 2004. Anatomy was a emo/rock/screamo band formed in 2001 and even ended up signed to Rise Records, but soon after the creation of Portugal. The Man a side project turned into a main focus. Portugal is a rock band with a very smooth deliverance that lets your brain relax without giving up the high energy. Evil Friends is a great album for vinyl, actually most Portugal albums are great spinning under the needle. This album was produced by Danger Mouse (MF Doom, Beck, The Black Keys) and was released under Atlantic Records. In the past, well beginning these guys worked with Fearless Records. The contents of the vinyl packaging include one 180g black vinyl, a lyric sheet with artwork, the album on cd, and some very interesting artwork from front to back and even the inside of the gatefold.

KAONASHI

Today we have Kaonashi, a progressive hardcore metal band out of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Currently on tour with Bungler and 'Sabella and tonight you can catch these guys in Las Vegas at the Chateau Le Punk. Since forming in 2012 three EPs have been delivered from Kaonashi, with the latest, "Never Home" being a split with 'Sabella (definitely listen to both halves of this gem). Such a high energy band bringing great tracks to the table with some experimental stuff thrown in as well. Please give these guys a listen and if they are playing in your area and you have time, for a cheap price you can snag up some tickets.

BLACKOUT PROBLEMS

Today we have a Pop Punk and Alternative band from Munich, Germany and they go by Blackout Problems. Since forming in 2012 these guys have put out 2 EPs and last year brought out their debut album, "Holy". This album was put out under their own label, Munich Warehouse. A band to watch for sure and maybe even share around. In Germany, "Holy" made its way to the 57th on those album charts after release. So, great job guys keep it up.

CAGE THE ELEPHANT "Tell Me I'm Pretty" Vinyl

Vinyl Day!!! Well today on vinyl I have the latest album from rock band, Cage The Elephant on vinyl. "Tell Me I'm Pretty" is Cage The Elephant's fourth album and was released in December of 2015. Little bit about these guys, in 2006 they formed in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and by 2008 Cage The Elephant decided to move to London before the release of their first album. Since then this band has done many great things including touring with The Black Keys. Oh yeah and these guys got nominated for a Grammy on their third album, "Melophobia". This 2015 release is a great one, sounds perfect for vinyl too! It is one of those "listen from beginning to end" kind of records with all 10 tracks ending up to be pretty satisfying. While visiting friends in Washington D.C. we went to a record store in Georgetown and I came out with a few records, but was looking for CTE's new album. It was on the walk back that we found an Urban Outfitters, it would be here I located what I was looking for, the "Tell Me I'm Pretty" LP.

I will share with you, a nice relaxed track from this album.

BABY STRANGE

Today we have Baby Strange, an Indie Rock band from Glasgow, Scotland. Along with the Indie vibes these guys put out a Pop Punk feel as well. Baby Strange formed in 2012 and have been climbing their way up since. 2016 brought greatness when the release of their debut album, "Want It Need It" arrived showing off what they could put out. This album was put out under Ignition Records, a label with greats such as Band Of Skulls and Oasis under them. Any for those vinyl lovers these dudes have 7" singles and such for sale and some are signed too. Well lets dig in and listen to some Baby Strange.

'SABELLA

Today, we have an incredible metal band from Elmira, NY and they go by 'Sabella. These guys are much more than a metal band, they deliver hints of punk, rap, and grunge in their music. Just a few days ago, 'Sabella hit the road with Bungler, Kaonashi, and others for their first U.S. tour. In 2016 these guys released a split EP titled "Never Home" with Kaonashi. I will be sure to drop a track on those ears from this split. "Perennial" and "The Funeral" are the titles of their first two EPs from a few years back. 'Sabella is a personal favorite of mine and maybe you will dig too. Sabella consists of some of the most hungry hard charging hyenas out there. There is hardly a time these guys aren't out playing a show. And to finish things off before we get to those tunes, today Sabella went ahead and dropped some new material for us to pick up. The split track song is titled "Closed/Doors". If you like these guys go ahead and share it up, tell a friend, or even bring it up at the dinner table. Enjoy!

GLASS ANIMALS "Zaba" Vinyl

Today's pressing is a personal favorite of mine and it is "Zaba", the 2014 release from psych pop band Glass Animals from Oxford, England. First, before you even get into the vinyl there is some of the most gorgeous album artwork I have seen. Whether it is the front, back, and even the inside of this gatefold you find art. Even the text is a beautiful glossy gold that just tops it off. And then go ahead and drop the needle on this masterpiece and take it around the groove. This album is just as beautiful as the artwork with all 11 tracks delivering such a comfortable sound. Soon after the release of their first EP, "Leaflings", Glass Animals was signed to Wolf Tone (Adele). So lets go ahead and check out this vinyl and listen to a few tracks.

KNOCKED LOOSE

Today we have Knocked Loose, a hardcore punk/ metal band from Oldham County, Kentucky. Forming in 2013 these guys have been coming up fast having recently signed with Pure Noise Records. In 2013, Knocked Loose released the "Pop Culture" EP with Little Heart Records. Then a split EP in 2015 with Damaged Goods on No Luck Records. And then comes 2016 when the album, "Laugh Tracks" came out through Pure Noise delivering so many great tracks like Oblivions Peak, Deadringer, The Rain, and Counting Worms. And if you can handle a breakdown or two these guys impress. And for my vinyl lovers, about everything they have done is on vinyl and many coor variants too. Here are a few goodies from Knocked Loose.

MODERN BASEBALL

The band we have for today is Modern Baseball, an amazing rock band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Since forming in 2012 these guys have created 3 albums full of great material through labels like Run For Cover Records, Big Scary Monsters, and Modern Baseball's own label, Lame-O Records. If you like indie rock, punk, pop punk, or even folk you just might enjoy these guys. Fun fact, Modern Baseball's first album, "Sports" was recorded at Drexel Studios (Drexel University). THE ORWELLS

Today we have The Orwells, an indie rock band from Elmhurst, Illinois. The members of the band formed while in high school a little more than 6 years ago with the last member graduating high school in 2013. So yes, this is a young band, but since their beginning they have signed on with labels such as Atlantic Records, Autumn Tone Records, Canvasback Music, And National Anthem Records. A hard charging indie band for sure that needs listened too. So far with 2 official albums, and a few EPs these guys have plenty of music to choose from. On February, 17, 2017 these guys will release a third album titled, "Terrible Human Beings" through Canvasback Music. And for the vinyl lovers, basically all of their work has been pressed and for the most part, easy to get. Here are The Orwells!

DEFTONES "Diamond Eyes" Vinyl

Here we are again at another Monday, meaning another vinyl. Today we have a Deftones vinyl, Diamond Eyes. This is their sixth album and was released back in 2010. It was the first album without bassist, Chi Cheng, who at the time was in a coma from a car crash since 2008. Chi unfortunately passed away in 2013 from heart failure. Quicksand bassist Sergio Vega filled in for this Diamond Eyes album along with the rest of their albums since. This album is also Deftones's first album with Reprise Records since transferring from Maverick Records founded by Madonna! Maverick Records is more for just management today, not records. And a fun fact about Reprise Records would be who the founder is, Johnny Cash (1960). This album was named "Rock Album Of The Year" by the Itunes store. This 11 track album definitely has some songs on it that will stick in your head with some songs soft and other touching on their metal side. This is pressed on white 140g vinyl and sounds great with the needle dropped. Not exactly sure on how many have been pressed on white, but it isn't a hard one to get at a great price.

COLDFRONT

First off, Happy New Year everyone.

Today's band is Coldfront, a punk band from Ontario, Canada. Since forming in 2013 these guys have released 3 EPs thus far with plans to release a full lengh album this year for 2017. Now signed with Equal Vision Records (Say Anything, Saves The Day), these guys have great momentum. Here a few tracks from their newest EP, "Is This Where They Found You?".
